When completed, Hotel Dörr will be the first new construction hotel in Door County, Wisconsin in 25 years. It will sit across the main street of Sister Bay from the eastern shore of Green Bay.
ZWA is the architect and interior designer for the project. I have the role of team lead on the project, as well as providing creative and design direction to the architecture and interior design teams.
The concept for the design was to treat the hotel like a large lake house. At its heart, it is centered around expressing the feelings of informal comfort often associated with a seasonal house on the lake.
The exterior design lowers the scale of what will be the tallest building in the village and creates an open and welcoming atmosphere. The interior builds on the lake house idea by treating the lobby as a large living room centered on an over-sized four sided fireplace and looking out on the town and lake through a two story window.
Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2019 with the hotel opening projected for early summer 2020.
